World Premiere: The Loud Bangs (Feat. William Mull) Re-imagine The Church's "Constant in Opal"
From the forthcoming "Listening to 1984" vinyl LP. Video created/destroyed by Jill GG, an LA-based avant-garde filmmaker.
Time to let the cat out of the bag. There will be a limited-edition Listening to 1984 vinyl LP, out later this year or early 2025, featuring reinterpretations of the hits and deep cuts of “pop’s greatest year” from Glenn Watson, Andy Lindquist, Darren Callahan, Brian Smith, Craig Franklin, Matt S. Hinton, Dan Lurie, and yours truly. We’re covering songs by Cyndi Lauper, R.E.M., Thompson Twins, the Cars, Bryan Adams, and the Psychedelic Furs, among others. Our kickoff is something truly special: a collaboration between LA shoegaze visionaries The Loud Bangs and bassist William Mull (Skyflake, Seven Simons), reimagining the Church’s 1984 single “Constant in Opal.” Check out the video below, directed by Jill GG. Paid subscribers to this Substack are entitled to a free copy of the LP (including free shipping if you’re based in the US). This project has been long in the making and I can’t wait for you all to hear it! (See below the video for a provisional track order).
