Dear Friends,
A very happy New Year to each of you. May 2025 bring fulfillment and prosperity. May it not be crazier than any of the other off-kilter trips around the sun we’ve taken. May you always hold Paul Westerberg’s words in your heart: “A good day is any day that you’re alive.”
Some of you may be wondering where this Substack is headed, now that we have given 1984 back to 1984. On the immediate horizon, I will be taking January off. After that, I plan to shift to monthly dispatches in keeping with this site’s tagline of “Music. Books. Spirit.” I hope you will stick around. If you have enjoyed the journey so far, I believe there is much ahead that will be of interest.
And Listening to 1984 is not wholly in the rearview. As I mentioned some months back, there is a vinyl release in the works (with two additional songs) of the collaborative covers album that accompanied the Substack series. Paid subscribers will get a free copy.
I am also under contract for a new book that I believe many of my longtime readers will be very interested in. Expect further details on this by mid-2025. (I am eager to share more about this!) Again, paid subscribers will be entitled to a copy.
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has tagged along on this adventure. There is a lot of “content” (God, I hate that word) out there competing for your attention, so it means the world to me that you have allowed these discursive musings through the gate.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Have a great January!
Robert
